If a criminal pulls a gun on a victim, the victim will just take it away and use it on him
From Gun Watch comes this Florida story. Perps stage a nightime home invasion robbery, but the homeowner disarms one and shoots him and they flee.
I think this is a third story I've encountered where the victim disarmed the criminal and used the gun on him. I have yet to see one where the criminal disarmed the victim. This may reflect that fact that the criminal is much more likely to be under the influence of opiates, crack, and/or ETOH than the victim. Or perhaps that victims are smarter, or know more about gun handling.
Oh, and the newpaper headline? "Tallassee home invasion turns deadly."

Well, here's the fourth:
Man foils 3 teenage robbers, takes gun
A man foiled an attempted armed robbery around 8 p.m. Thursday in the 3800 block of N. Humboldt Ave., police said Friday.
The man was walking when three boys in their mid-teens approached and started making small talk, according to Milwaukee police Capt. Gregory Habeck. One of the youths then pulled a sawed-off shotgun from under his jacket and demanded money from the 45-year-old man, who lived in the neighborhood, Habeck said.
Instead of handing over money, the man grabbed the gun and yelled at the teens to get out of the neighborhood. The boys ran away. The man called police and turned in the gun.

This reminds me of the quote from French president Nicolas Sarkozy a while back:
http://www.worldexaminer.com/worldexaminer/2007/12/anti-gun-french.html
"I would like to say one thing, in what is my conception of the Republic, security is the responsibility of the State, I am against militias, I am against the private ownership of firearms, and I’m trying to make you think about that. If you are assaulted by an armed burglar, he’ll use his weapon more effectively than you anyway so you’re risking your life. If the criminal is not armed and you are and you shoot, your life will be ruined, because killing someone over a theft is not in line with the republican values that are mine. The private ownership of firearms is dangerous. I understand your exasperation for having been burglarized two times, I understand the fear that your wife and daughter may have but the answer is in the efficiency of the police and the efficiency of the judiciary process, the answer is not in having guns at home."
Saw this via Cramer's self-defense blog. First thing I noticed is the first paragraph states man shot with own gun. That's all. Takes until last sentence of second paragraph to tell you the resident took the gun away from the burglar.
I'm sure that's just happenstance.
