When the shoe is on the other foot...
A Texas legislator, one of the minority who voted against "castle doctrine," has shot an intruder in a house that the legislator owned.

Aw, c'mon - he was in the right to resort to deadly force. After all, the guy threw a pocket knife at him. Since the knife obviously missed him and now that the guy was apparently disarmed, he was of course practically obligated to shoot the guy.
I really don't care if he shot the creep - as far as I'm concerned, you break into someone's home to steal something, the home owner should have the right to shoot you - but given that the current standard for use of deadly force in self-defense is almost universally that you must be presented with a threat of imminent serious physical injury or death, ya gotta wonder how "clean" this shoot was...
Regardless, I don't think he should be charged.
Police said Miles, who is in his freshman term, is licensed to carry a concealed weapon. No charges have been filed against Miles, Senties said.
Miles, a Democrat, voted against a bill that gives Texans stronger legal right to defend themselves with deadly force in their homes, vehicles, and workplaces. The so-called "castle doctrine," passed by the Legislature this year, states that a person has no duty to retreat from an intruder before using deadly force. The law goes into effect Sept. 1.
Since the law doesn't go into effect for another two months, why isn't Miles being charged with something?
