Interesting events in VA

Posted by David Hardy · 6 June 2007 06:18 PM

Million Moms March schedules a public meeting in a public building. Some pro-gunners show up (the story notes they are Virginia Citizens Defense League members, but they showed up on their own initative) show up, want to videotape the event, decline to sign an agreement it would be for public consumption only. It's a public gathering in a public building, why shouldn't it be public?

Million Moms cancels the event. The Fairfax County TImes carries the story.

Can't have what they are doing exposed to the light of day.

Let's go to the Video Tape: http://youtube.com/watch?v=ZAsyrBTvN2g

These Million Mom Marchers not only blame the guy exercising his First Amendment right, they actually talk about his genitals. I think they need to calm down and take a time out.

I don't think the guy behind the camera handled that terribly well. He got drawn into a lengthy discussion with some woman he didn't even know. If he wanted to make a statement, he could simply have said that the release would have exposed him to potential civil liability that he need not expose himself to. There was no point to the long debate.

If you're confident enough in your beliefs and positions on an issue, there should be no fear in letting someone go ahead and video tape it.

If they wanted to rob the VCDL guys of their "power" over them, the MMM folks should have said "go ahead - whatever" and gone on with their meeting as if the VCDL guys weren't even there. I know that's what I would do if I were having a pro-gun meeting and some MMM person showed up with a video cam. I'm not ashamed of my position on the issue and have nothing to hide there.

Bill, I think its pretty apparent that they had something to hide, which is why no camera was desired, and then the closed door meeting was setup afterward.

Exactly.

One of those men has no affiliation with the VCDL, nor the NRA, he is a free lance journalist. The other, though a member of the VCDL, was not there at their behest. He was merely a citizen attending a public event.

"...decline to sign an agreement it would be for public consumption only..."

That should read "...decline to sign an agreement it would be for private consumption only..."

On the contrary, the guy behind the camera let that woman make a complete jackass of herself in front of the entire youtube viewing world. He never once lost his cool and only allowed here to maker herself look even more like an idiot with each passing breath.
