Campus police head resigns over unarmed officers
The police chief of the City College of San Francisco just resigned because the College refuses to allow his officers to be armed.
"The carnage at Virginia Tech convinced Chief Koehler even more that his officers need to be armed. But he was fighting a 70-year-old college policy prohibiting its officers from carrying guns.
....
Peter Goldstein, CCSF Vice Chancellor: "The police force does not carry weapons... I guess he felt that ultimately didn't fit in with his vision of where the department should be.""
[Hat tip to Pete Buxton, who got it from one of the students]

It's like putting a
"Dear Oakland, Rob Us" sign on the campus lawn.
Its a common affliction among academics in the 'soft' sciences to make decisions based on their feelings, reason and logic be damned. I work at a popular community college across the bay that has the same soft headed policy. Plus the college president is pushing algore's global warming lies. Oh, get this, he actually burst into tears while criticizing the Iraq War in the State of the College speech. Its a common affliction. They do pull down handsome salaries, they even treat their tradesmen decently.
The police chief is at least realistic, unlike the college leadership. It would be even better if he had advocated students being armed, but California is not a "shall-issue" state and few carry permits are issued.
