Take on the Zumbo controversy
I've so far not had time to comment on it, but The Martialist has a summary.
Hat tip to Joe Olson.

He says he was "tired". Let his guard down. Gave us a better view into what was really in his heart. Goes out hunting with his hunting buddies Edwards and Kerry. Yup.
It is precisely because there is no constitutional protection for hunting that hunters must be concerned with aesthetic, ethical and PR issues. We will only be allowed to continue to hunt if the majority non-hunting public approves of the way we do it.
AR-15s may be appropriate for some types of shooting. I don't consider shooting prairie dogs to be hunting and predator control is a gray area. But so-called black rifles clearly have a military background that has been burned into the public consciousness by the media, a hostile image that may not be appropriate in the deer woods. This is something the hunting community should be mindful of and Zumbo had a right, even a duty as an outdoors journalist, to address it. It's too bad he then went off his nut and started talking about terrorists.

Denny Hanson (S.W.A.T):Jim Zumbo,
Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Denny Hansen and I am the editor of S.W.A.T. Magazine. I have several nationally known tactical firearms instructors who have offered to let you attend one of their courses with an AR-15 to see that the only use for such guns is not in the hands of terrorists OR for hunting.
These courses are attended regularly not only by cops and Soldiers, but by professional people such as lawyers and doctors as well. Thousands of private citizens each year attend such courses either as a hobby or to learn skills for defense of themselves and family. After attending a course, I would like you to write an article for S.W.A.T telling what you have learned about folks who buy and use semiautomatic rifles for fun and defense. We will provide a loaner rifle for you to use. If you’re sincerely interested in spreading the truth about so-called “assault rifles” please contact me by email at [email protected] or phone me directly at (928)775-59XX.
JimZumbo: I just read Denny Hanson's comment. He is the editor of S.W.A.T Magazine and invited me to take a course in shooting AR-15's, and when I'm done, he asked if I'd write an article in the magazine about using the gun.
I agreed. Bring it on, bro!
A new gig for Zummy!!
Whether military style semi-auto weapons have a place in hunting is not relevant to the issue of whether firearms ownership is a right or a privilege. In the UK, it is a privilege. Privileges can, as we have seen from what happened to UK gun owners, be taken away at the government's whim. It didn't matter whether they owned a semi-auto or a break open single shot, they lost their privileges.
I don't recall the Second Amendment saying anything like:
The harvesting of deer, elk and upland birds being essential to the survival of the republic, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
Hunting seems to be more of a fringe benefit of the right to keep and bear arms to defend one's self, one's family, one's country and the sovereignty of the people over their government.
