New briefs in Parker case (challenge to DC law)

Posted by David Hardy · 21 August 2006 06:33 PM

Here's a webpage with almost all of the briefs filed in the Parker appeal, including the recently-filed reply brief. There are a few amici briefs still being added.

The States' amicus included Idaho, and is antigun. Idaho has since withdrawn itself from participation in the brief.

[Update: in light of comments, the last may be an error. I'd received the page from a pro-gun attorney, who noted something to the effect that Idaho had seen the error of its ways and withdrew. There may have been a mistake as to what brief was being referred to -- I assumed Idaho was on the State's brief]

Thanks for the post pointing to the Parker case webpage. Very interesting.

One question, tho. You state in your post, "The States' amicus included Idaho, and is antigun." I skimmed thru the link from the main Parker page entitled, "States' Amicus Brief," and I certainly didn't get "antigun" out of it. I didn't read the whole thing, word-for-word, but up front it contains the following, "...the categorical nature of the D.C. Code provisions at issue here, which impose blanket prohibitions on handgun ownership and possession of functional long guns in the home, are fundamentally inconsistent with the Second Amendment right of Americans to keep and bear arms. As such, they are unconstitutional on their face."

So I am a bit confused by your comment? Are you referring to some other States' brief?
