Problems for a Brady stalwart

Posted by David Hardy · 31 March 2006 11:05 AM

Rep. Cynthia McKinney, who draws a 92% agreement rating from Brady Campaign and an F from NRA, has a bit of a problem. As in Capitol Hill Police seeking an arrest warrant in the wake of her assault on an officer.

[Answer to Gully's comment: national legislators are privileged against arrest, while travelling to or attending Congress, except for "treason, felony, and breach of the peace." The last exception would cover assault on an officer. Basically, they're protected against arrest for nondisruptive misdemeanors. Once read of one squeaking out of a DUI arrest on it.]

Other info says that the officer is being ordered by superiors not to sign a complaint.

Wouldn't those superiors be in violation of laws regarding Obstructing Judicial Administration?

McKinney is clearly not well attached to reality; that the leadership in her party is not making any attempt to deal with the situation speaks loudly about their inability to deal with reality.

Congress does have the constitutional ability to deal with deranged members. They should act.

She has shown signs of quirkiness, but it'd be difficult to press a case for actual loss of faculties. Her party won't do it for obvious reasons, and the Republicans would look "mean" if they pushed it as an issue.

Think about it; if she is certifiable, the GOP would be picking on a mentally impaired women of color, and the Dems would simply claim later that they were going to force her to not to run anymore, quietly so as to save her the humiliation. And if they were to fail in proving her loss of faculties, then they would be guilty of concocting the most vile of attacks against a person's character.

More on the surface of the matter, this is just one more example of the arrogance of the Left. They're "for the little guy" in the most abstract fashion, but just don't let the little guy get to close to them in public.

Will the Brady campaign rate McKinney on this type of violence? She didn't use a handgun.

Addressing problems honestly and forthrightly is the traditional American way. Getting all balled up with Political Correctness is going to kill us all.

As much as I would love to see her in prison, isn't there a clause in the Constitution that grants some sort of immunity to members of Congress going to the Capitol?
