Poll of Nat'l Ass'n of Chiefs of Police

Posted by David Hardy · 3 March 2006 04:12 PM

The National Association of Chiefs of Police have released their 2006 poll of 14,000 members. Remember this is a poll of chiefs of police, who historically have been less pro-gun than the officers on the beat.

92 percent of the respondents supported civilian gun ownership for self-defense or sport.

Ninety-five percent believe criminals obtain firearms from illegal sources.

When asked if they opposed citizens obtaining concealed weapons permits, only 40 percent said yes.

Forty percent (who said yes) is forty percent who don't understand the Constitution or their oath to protect and defend. That's too many police chiefs. I gotta open up a donut shop just for them...with trans fats and lard in the fryer.

I don't understand why people want to know whether the Police think citizens should be armed. They are public servants and bound to uphold the Constitution whether they like it or not. I could care less what a government agent thinks of my rights. It is not good policy to allow soldiers to publicly comment on the conduct of the Commander-in-chief, as the military and Police should always be subordinate to the civil authority.

I agree. Cops can't protect everyone all the time, nor should they be expected to do so. In fact, they can very rarely, if ever, actually prevent you from being victimized. They can only clean up the mess after your dead, raped, or robbed. As long as there are bad guys out there, a lawful, safe, ordered society requires a virtuous, armed citizenry.
