Going postal in gun free zones

Posted by David Hardy · 7 February 2006 10:02 AM

Donald May has a Townhall column by that title. [Hat tip to Dan Gifford].

Interesting question: mass killers often are driven by rage at "the system," the status quo, and are sometimes supposedly impossible to stop because they desire their own death.

Strange that they have never targetted, oh, a gun show or police station.

I had a conversation with an investigator for the Santa Barbara County DA's office (and former SWAT team member) who described how the responding officers entered the building on arrival. Unlike Columbine, they did not cordon off the area and wait for more murders to occur. More of our police ought to train for, equip and adopt a policy of direct assault at the start this type of situation. It's nasty being the first guy in, as Dave described it to me, but that's what needs done.

When they target the police the act is termed "suicide by cop".
