Prohibited gun purchaser, 1939 version

Posted by David Hardy · 6 April 2010 10:38 AM

From Arizona's 1939 Code:
guns2indians.jpg

Under that code, the two classes of persons forbidden firearms purchase (but not possession) were (1) juveniles under age 14, who could not be sold handguns, and (2) Indians, who could not be sold rifles or handguns. (At that, there was no penalty provided for the purchaser, so a juvenile or an Indian would managed to obtain a forbidden firearm could keep it).

Ah.

Gun control and racism.

Just like peas and carrots.

Yes. Kinda like the California constitution (1879) failing to include any RKBA provision.

Can't have those 'Chinamen' and 'n-words' guaranteed any right like that, fer cryin' out loud...

Of all of the disgusting aspects of gun control, I personally find the idea of "prohibited persons" the most disgusting. In my mind, at least, the right of self defense is so fundamental that someone needs to have done something pretty horrible to have that right taken away for life.

When you look at the percentage of convicted felons among the poor, black and working class, compared to the percentage of convicted felons among those that are better off, I think that depriving anyone of any of there rights (including but not limited to possessing fire arms) on the basis of a felony conviction should be a matter of great concern to any one who claims to care about civil/equal rights.

I think non-violent felons should have a legal path to restoration of their 2A rights once they've paid their debt to society, etc.

There are legal avenues for restoring firearms rights. The process varies from state to state. Check with your state chapter of the NRA, state firearms groups, etc.
