More spin....

A story that Trump creates VIP section for viewing fireworks on the mall. There's always been such a section. Heck, one year I got into it. I knew the right people, and they weren't political appointees, but career staff, and they got into it, too. We're talking 25 years ago, so the custom has been around for a long time.

A better view was actually to be had out on the mall. It was unbelievable. At the finale, I had to close my eyes and plug my ears because it was like being under an artillery barrage. I only viewed it that once, because the rush of people trying to leave at the end swamped the subway, it took forever to get on a train, and people who'd drunk way too much beer on a hot day were barfing here and there. in VIP section you got to bring your car and just endure a big traffic jam.

BTW, I was told the fireworks were the product of bidding between the two big firms. That year "bang-bang" Zeffereldi (my memory of the name may be off) won with a bid of $100,000 (double that for today's prices) and ran it at a loss as advertising.
