Percent of households with guns, by State
An interesting chart, albeit a bit dated (2001). In ten States, gun ownership topped 50% of households, the highest being Alaska at nearly 58%. Conversely, the impact of "reasonable" gun regulation can be seen in Massachusetts, New Jersey and New York (12%, 12%, and 18%),

Wyoming is highest at 59.7%

Howdy All,
1. It would be nice to see updated numbers on ownership, given some of the trends since 2008, etc.
2. However, (I don't take credit for this thought) - will gunowners be truthful about this to the pollers? How do I respond to the nurse asking the same question during my visit to see the Doc - heh - It depends on my mood at the time.

Do we trust those figures? If I received a random phone call asking me if I owned a gun or guns, I would probably deny it! I generally don't respond to a telephone pollster anyway.

I'm with Chris: I live in NYS, and if someone called me at random asking me about guns, I'd most likely hang up on them, and if I didn't do that, I don't think I'd admit to owning them.

I wouldn't answer "yea" or "nay" on such a question.
Either answer is a risk.
