Survey on guns on campus

Posted by David Hardy · 21 February 2011 03:52 PM

I don't generally link to online surveys, but this an exception. Someone has created a survey (you don't need to give your email) opposing an Arizona bill to allow CCW carriers on university campuses.

"In the event that SB 1467 is enacted into law, we request action by the Arizona Board of Regents to segregate the campuses into armed and weapons-free communities. When such segregation cannot be enforced, protective action should include the provision of police protection, the substitution of electronic communication for personal interaction, and the cancelation of classes as a last resort."

And, I'm informed, its promoters are using University email lists to encourage people to encourage people to vote yes on it. The survey is here.

Can this be for real? I understand there is opposition to repealing campus prohibitions on the second amendment, but if campus carry becomes law ...

1) They want to segregate campus?
2) They want to substitute electronic for personal interaction?
3) They want to cancel classes (effectively shut the university)?

Wow. Can this be for real? Who in hell are these people?

It is completely UNSCIENTIFIC. Easily manipulated garbage.

Unscientific, yes, But it will be cited somewhere by its supporters as proof of resistance.

The unscientific solution: since it has no way of knowing whether the person clicking is a student or professor or not, let's all go there and vote early and often.

"We affirm that no student should be obligated to defend a student, faculty or staff member, and no faculty or staff member should be obligated to be in the presence of an armed police officer on the university campuses of Arizona. In the event that SB 1467 is enacted into law, we request action by the Arizona Board of Regents to segregate the campuses into armed and the defenseless communities with a sign indicating which is which. When such segregation cannot be enforced, protective action should include the provision of police protection for the armed, since the disarmed don't want guns protecting them, the substitution of electronic communication for personal interaction as abject fear isn't socially wise, and the cancelation of classes for those who are unprepared for the challenges of life as a last resort."

As insane as it is the numbers are running 94% for the charter and 6% agin. Now I'm not encouraging anyone to be dishonest and vote if you don't work or go to school there, but to see any results you have to vote. Go see the results."

Those who set up the "survey" must have a "free" SurveyMonkey account, of the sort that only shows the first 100 responses. It's been stuck at 6% for hours.

" In the event that SB 1467 is enacted into law, we request action by the Arizona Board of Regents to segregate the campuses into armed and weapons-free communities."

Hopefully there will be ample signage designating which is which. As a AZ State School Grad, I recall that certain neighborhoods bordering campus aren't really places you'd elect to walk alone at night....or even during the day.
