RIP, Gunny Sergeant

Posted by David Hardy · 31 May 2010 10:19 AM

I am informed that R. Lee Ermey has died in San Diego of complications from pneumonia. Same thing got my father in 2001.

[UPDATE: I rec'd this via an email from a friend, am trying to source it. All I find so far is that the Gunny was expected to take part in the Washington D.C. Memorial Day parade today. One commenter notes that there was a hoax email going around a few days ago on this -- the email that I got was worded a little differently, but had the same details as the hoax. So I hope we'll see him in the parade.]

For the young 'uns with parents yet living ... watch out for pneumonia. It starts out in the lungs, of course, and a good immune system will kept it there, while showing dramatic symptoms -- fever and chills, etc.. But with older folks, the immune system is weaker, and it can get into the bloodstream -- septicemia -- which it attacks everything at once, and sends the person into shock, circulatory collapse. With the compromised immune system, the serious symptoms don't show, and the shock appears to be napping, but blood pressure is zilch and after half an hour of that the kidneys fail. With my father, the young docs in the hospital didn't realize this, just gave him antibiotics for the pneumonia. My sister visited and realized he couldn't be awakened. Blood pressure was incredibly low, and he never came out of the coma.
.

Here's Dad's webpage (I've got to clean up the html when I have time). He grew up in a one-room adobe cabin, no electricity or water, walls consisting of sheets hung from the ceiling, and lived to see the 21st century.

Do you have a source for that? I can't find anything online, and I assume the internet would be going nuts over something like that.

I heard this last week and it was false then. We will see at 2PM at the Memorial Day parade as he is listed as a participant.

If media outlets reported on Gary Coleman, and Britney Murphy's husband (?), they'd be reporting on R. Lee Ermey. He ain't dead. You may want to just remove this post.
