I wasn't going to vote for that turkey, anyway. Rich multimillion dollars rich Northern Urban Hip Democrat Obama thinks manufacture sale and possession should be banned for all of us. Its childish to think otherwise.

How many "Fudds" care about handguns?

Seriously, I don't know, but it's my impression a lot don't and that a lot DO.

E.g. the rest of my family are hunters and fishermen, and I'm the only target shooter (hey, no more boring than fishing! :-)/self-defense oriented one (hunting is between OK and fun, I only go along on some of the trips the others set up), but it would be ... unwise to try to take away the handguns my other family members own. Including my Cajun Mom's....

Hmmm, but culturally we're at least part Southerners, at the corner of the South, West and Midwest in a bulge of the cultural South that extends up into SW Missouri. What about the pure "Midwestern Pragmatists" vs. us more Jacksonian Southerners?

E.g. how much do the famous legions of hunters in Pennsylvania care about handguns?

I enjoy Sandy's articles, but she neglected a statement Barack recently made in Philly. There he stated, in no uncertain terms that:

“I am not in favor of concealed weapons. I think that creates a potential atmosphere where more innocent people could (get shot during) altercations.”

"Potential" and "could" aside, he's saying that the presence of licensed, trained, and armed citizens (like me) are a threat to public safety. I'd beg to differ with the man...the real question is whether they have no effect or whether they increase public safety. So many, like me, will and do take his statement personally, to mean "Obama does not trust me to be responsible, considerate, safe, and just." Given the prevalence and success of concealed carry nationwide, I think this will come back to bite Obama.

As an aside, anyone know how many CCW licensees there are nationwide? My guess is around 5-6 million, but I do not know (would be interested in finding out).

Forget what he said in a survey, in 2003 Obama voted FOR IL SB1195 which would have banned the sale, possession and manufacturing of any semi-automatics (as well as magazines) capable of firing more than FIVE rounds. During the Senate Judiciary meeting on the bill, Obama commented that giving folks 90 days to surrender thair weapons was essentialy confiscation.

And then he voted YES.

Speaking of proverbial smoking guns, has anyone bothered to tally how many briefs (or bits of "research" cited therein) for DC in the Heller case were written by groups funded by the Joyce Foundation? A number of them are quite obvious, but it would be interesting to see just how much of the work could be linked to them. Especially since Obama sat on the board of directors there for a few years..
