Brady files FEC complaint against NRA, GOA

Posted by David Hardy · 4 November 2006 08:34 AM

News release here, but no details. A general guess: under the various finance campaign laws, a nonprofit can advocate the election or unelection of a candidate, but only in messages to its members, not in any aimed at the general public.

UPDATE: Second Amendment Fdn. has filed a complaint against Brady, on the same grounds, pointing out that their press releases, circulated on the internet and by wire service, also reach their nonmembers.

I think that is a good guess - I have knowledge of the campaign finance laws and while endorsements can be posted via press release you cannot have an open site to the public. I think the NRA screwed up because in the primary their site was password protected and now it is not. As an NRA member I took this information as exclusive to us and a benefit of membership but I guess if it helps get the word out to a broader audience it is worth whatever they do even if it is ellegal - what can happen they pay a fine? Bad press? so what

Is there any right the Brady Bunch won't trample in their pursuit to destroy all things Second Amendment?
