A brief thought on Pope Francis' and the arms industry

Posted by David Hardy · 25 June 2015 05:36 PM

His Swiss Guard has halberds and swords for show; for serious work they pack:

"SIG P220 pistols

Steyr Tactical Machine Pistol

SIG P220 (P75)

Glock 19

Steyr TMP

Heckler & Koch MP5A3

Heckler & Koch MP7A1

SIG SG 550

SIG SG 552"

Not a bad assortment: handguns, subguns, assault rifles. They've retired their Mauser 98s and Suomi KP-31s in favor of modern firearms.

I imagine the Swiss Guard were surprised to find they were excommunicated.

Of course he's important and needs to be protected. If he truly believed, he would forgo protection because he knows God will protect him. And if he dies he gets to go home to the Lord. Makes you wonder about the Pope's real beliefs. He has opened his mouth an awful lot about wealth redistribution and now global warming, which makes me wonder how powerful HIS God is cause mine is in control of the Universe and all the humans together have no potential of overpower my God.

The halberds may be mostly for show, but they train with them as well. Blades can be handy things in close, and if you are already holding it in your hand...

Very interesting assortment there - but I guess no expense needs to be spared, really. I'd love to see a history of the weapons used to defend Popes throughout the years! Do the Popes get to choose the weapons? Are some more armed than others?
