A Washington State lawmaker introduces an AW ban, apparently without reading it, and later is startled to find that it would authorize warrantless searches of owners' homes. I guess he figured they'd have to pass it in order to find out what was in it.

Other sources claim that he's introduced essentially the same bill in previous sessions, so the "oops, didn't read" might just be lying.

@Kirk: You are correct.

It was no mistake. Warrantless searches to ensure "safe storage" have been proposed in WA before. I remember writing opposition letters at the time.

Since when is not reading a bill you sponsor an excuse? I think not reading the bills you sponsor is worse than proposing something stupid...
