Strange column

Posted by David Hardy · 1 December 2009 10:52 AM

At Bloomberg.com. "The banker had told this friend of mine that senior Goldman people have loaded up on firearms and are now equipped to defend themselves if there is a populist uprising against the bank."

"Common sense tells you a handgun is probably not even all that useful." In the author's mind, you keep your self defense gun unloaded in a safe where, yes, it might be a bit hard to use.

Against criminal attack, "In other words, a little humility and contrition are probably the better route." Criminals really appreciate humility. I'm not sure why the victim should be contrite.

"Concealed gun permits are almost impossible for ordinary citizens to obtain in New York or nearby states." That's news to Pennsylvanians. Or maybe she had in mind Vermont, where I've heard the police haven't issued a single CCW permit, ever. Because they don't have to.

hat tip to a Russian reader....

Defend the bank, eh?

Sure. Of course they will.

Just like they defended their clients monies...

"Common sense tells you a handgun is probably not even all that useful."

That's why if you are really expecting trouble you'd get a rifle.

"As for carrying a loaded pistol when you venture outside, dream on. Concealed gun permits are almost impossible for ordinary citizens to obtain in New York or nearby states."

But the thing Goldman Partners are not "ordinary citizens" they are "special citizens" NYC permits will be no problem for them.

"Concealed gun permits are almost impossible for ordinary citizens to obtain in New York or nearby states."

What? Even in Connecticut, the bluest of the blue, most any citizen can get a concealed carry permit.

My first instinct is to send off a quick email with the single sentence "You don't have a f****** clue!". But what would anything I say(snark or otherwise) accomplish when someone is so completely ignorant of anything outside of a NY urban setting?

Posted by: Alan A. at December 2, 2009 07:59 AM

CCW permits are fairly easy to get in CT. Outside of NYC, in NY, it's heavily dependent on which county you live in, as it is a "may issue" state. Some counties are fine, others not so much. But if you are very rich or politically connected (both probably apply here), even a NYC carry permit is no big deal.

So the banks will get carry permits and drop $5K on high-priced guns. It won't help them a bit.
