LA City Attorney's race

Posted by David Hardy · 3 May 2009 09:59 AM

One contender is Carmen Trutanich, law partner of pro-gun attorney Chuch Michel, and Trutanich's opponent is trying to use that against him.

It appears to me that for our purposes it doesn't matter which of them win. Therefore I do not care that they use such immoral and evil techniques on each other. It has never bothered me to see evil destroy itself.

Straightarrow's comment above reflects a GOA-style butting-heads-against-wall naivete - or his belief in the 'fluff' in the article.

Straightarrow would rather have an absolutely "pure" individual with NRA tattooed on his forehead - and whom would be absolutely unelectable in LA.

I've talked with Nuch. Nuch may not be a gunnie per se - however he is a highly rational, friendly man and is 'familiar' with the world of gunnies. His partner Chuck Michel is generally the lead firearms attorney and represents NRA & other gun orgs, while Nuch focuses on nongun matters (environmental, regulatory, etc.)

Getting Jack Weiss out means worlds. Having Nuch in as City Attorney means that post-Heller/Nordyke issues w/local gun laws will be understood, and that the travesties committed by the LAPD Gun Unit are seen to be the rights violations they are (which go way beyond RKBA issues).

Post-Heller and post-Nordyke, we have the ability to win and win nicely if there's even rationally 'neutral' staffing of such offices.

One should also realise that the LA City Attorney's office is a stepping stone to greater state office (either legislature or AG). Why not have a friendly face there?

Uh, no. The NRA tattoo would definitely lose my vote, were I to be able to vote.

I don't care which guy you get. I really don't. If he is electable there, he isn't anybody any decent person would want to know.

That is not naivete, that's just fact.

...more of the GOA-style bang-head-against-wall losing approach.

BTW, we've just incorporated the 2nd/RKBA to the state level in California. You may actually finally have an RKBA *because* of us. [Don't rely on your state constitution having an RKBA - lookit Hawaii's.]

Yeah Bill, but you didn't get it from the voters or citizens or even Ca. residents, did you?
