Obama campaign tries to get stations to refuse NRA ads

Posted by David Hardy · 25 September 2008 03:45 PM

Story here, with links to the campaign's letter and NRA's response.

The letter is pretty thin, not much more than (1) the Washington Post denies what NRA argues, so it must be a pack of lies and (2) the ads say Obama "supports" things ... OK, he *supported* them in the past, but it's not on his webpage at this moment.

When will people learn? Upon hearing "you should not be allowed to see this," every real American feels a Pavlovian urge to see it at once, even if it's a Sanskrit manual on chariot repair.

Comments

Thug politicians always do what thugs do. Obama will ban every gun he has the votes for, his website says so. Vote accordingly, unless you want to surrender your right to self defense.

So, now in addition to wanting to disregard the 2nd Amendment, the man now also wants to disregard the 1st Amendment? What am I missing here?

You must NEVER read the Sanskrit manual on chariot repair!

At any rate, a person must be delusional, at least to some degree, to believe that Obama supports the second amendment in any traditional or commonly-understood sense.

There are 2 reasons I won't vote for obama, 1. obama 2.biden.

obama says he supports sportsmen....that's fine, except the second amendment isn't about duck hunting !

Please link to the manual, my Chariot has been broke-down for some time now.

Posted by: Melancton Smith at September 25, 2008 07:28 PM

Jeez you guys - stop talking about chariots! Next thing you know, Barack will want to ban those, too.

Chariots have no legitimate purpose except in battle.

BTW, I've seen the manuals on e-bay.

Why do news reporters let BHO and his spokesmen get away with this facile nonsense?

The reporters ask questions like:
Q: "Do you favor a ban on handguns?"
Q: "Haven't you supported a total ban on the manufacture, sale and possession of handguns?"
Q: "Didn't you once advocate for a total ban on handguns?"

And they let BHO and his surrogates get away with answers like this:
A: "I have never supported a gun ban."
A: "Barak Obama strongly supports the Second Amendment."
A: "I support the Second Amendment rights of hunters to own guns for hunting or other sporting activities, and for self-defense."

But the BHO campaign NEVER says "handgun". Never. They won't say, "I have never supported a handgun ban."

These answers are like Bill Clinton's - they're not true in the normal sense of the word, but they wouldn't be considered perjury in a court of law, either.

Some reporter with some stones should insist on a straight answer to "Does Barak Obama support the right of an American adult to own a handgun?" And insist on a "yes or no" answer.

And it's really kind of sinister in view of the fact that the Heller decision gives Democrats lots of "wiggle room" on the other side of the issue: they can always say to their traditional supporters, "Look, folks, I'm sorry but the Supreme Court decision in the Heller case takes gun bans off the table."

It's sinister because it makes me suspect that BHO plans to ask for a national handgun ban IN SPITE of the Heller Case, with full knowledge that it is unconstitutional.

I'd like to sit David Axelrod down in front of a live TV camera and have the reporter say, "Repeat after me: Barak Obama does not support a handgun ban." and watch Axelrod squirm as he tries to avoid using the "h-word".

Did you notice how factcheck.org has given Obama cover for his letter? Without factcheck Obama's letter would be lame. With factcheck it looks reasonable. Factcheck.org has sold out.

Dan Hamilton, you appear to assume that factcheck actually checks facts whereas it appears that they are just a cover that others can cite to be able to say; no, Obama's not interested in gun bans.
