Hillary finally mentions guns

Posted by David Hardy · 12 April 2008 09:19 AM

From the Boston Globe:

"Clinton talked about gangs and drugs as a cause of homicides, but mentioned guns only in passing. She noted "a direct correlation between the illegal gun sales and homicides," as she proposed a new initiative to crack down on interstate gun trafficking and allow federal agencies to share information on the transfer of guns. In addition, Clinton said she would work to renew the assault-weapons ban, signed by President Clinton in 1994 but allowed to lapse a decade later."

wow, a direct correlation! not to be confused with an indirect correlation, wherein people get shot with bullets from knives instead of guns.

frosting contains a lot of sugar that's bad for you, you know. wedding cakes must be assault weapons, and civil unions are therefore directly correlated with diabetes. solution: ban all frosting bags with star-shaped nozzles.

I would hope that she knows that correlation can not and does not prove causality...

Sure it does, just ask the cigarette industry.

It's sad that it's become the "liberal" thing to do, to ban and otherwise restrict firearms.

I suspect the more they make it an issue, the more it will bite them - and hard. This is, after all, the year of Heller.

Murder and illegal gun sale rates are related, eh?

I'm confused about her plan of attack here. Is she intending to make illegal gun sales illegal? Or is she planning to make more gun sales illegal in hopes of increasing the number of illegal gun sales per murder?

Well, you can bet she isn't thinking of making murder illegal(er). that would alienate her constituency.

gangs and drugs a cause of homicides? NAH! That's just crazy talk.

"allow federal agencies to share information on the transfer of guns" Would that mean that when some agency loses a gun they can just say they transferred it instead of misplacing it? Might this be a way to make them look less incompetent?
