4th grader arrested

Posted by David Hardy · 16 December 2007 10:45 AM

A 10 year old has been arrested on felony weapons charges in Orlando -- for eating lunch with a knife.

One more proof that no tolerance = no brains.

Hat tip to reader Bill Bailey....

How do you charge a 10-year old with a felony? What if you were the deputy that got that call? If it were I, I'd tell the sheriff to do it himself and if that weren't okay I'd quit. Take this job and .......

Ah...so the sharpened pencils, the handyman's hammer, the softball bats in PE class all have to be banned...they're all weapons. All furniture has to be bolted to the floor to prevent someone from picking up a chair and using it as a weapon. The teacher's pointer, and how many other items can you find in a classroom that could be used as a weapon?
Oh...and they shouldn't allow cars on the school parking lot...have then never heard of vehicular homicide?

Zero tolerance...zero discretion...zero judgement...zero brains is right.

Proof again (as if we needed it) that teachers can't teach common sense because they don't possess it themselves, and this appears to be the exception to ". . . those who can't do, teach, and those who can't teach administrate."

Shouldn't we really be calling it "Horse Sense", as there doesn't seem to be anything common about it?

Of course, I'll bet you can probably find parents in that same school that have complained of their child being bullied, and the school failing to act.

James,
The one does not beget the other. There is a world of difference between using a knife to eat ones lunch and getting punched out in the schoolyard. I expect that there are still parents complainnig about their children being bullied and the school failing to act. Please tell me, how is the school administration acting like the biggest bullies helpfull to the problem of bullying?

On one side, the schools are claiming they have zero discretion, but then they turn around and repeatedly ignore reports of bullying behavior, which their own policies say they are to treat seriously. My local school system has made the national news repeatedly for "zero tolerance" incidents, while at the same time retaining a teacher who has been the subject of repeated complaints of abuse by students, parents, and fellow faculty FOR THIRTY YEARS.

Bullying would stop if kids were allowed to carry guns
