Fred Thompson quotes Don Kates on the 2d Amendment!

Posted by David Hardy · 10 May 2007 04:43 PM

Right here. This is staggering -- a possible presidential candidate who understand the Second Amendment, down to having read the scholarship on it. No "I support the Second Amendment" (leaving you to guess what I think it means). Instead, he quotes Kates, and observes "Unfortunately, the [NY Times] article falsely portrays the individual right argument as some new interpretation held only by a few fringe theorists. The truth is very different, as civil rights attorney and gun law expert Don Kates has pointed out recently."

I just realized -- what he's quoting comes from an email Don sent out, via Dan Gifford, to a small number of pro-second amendment types. Don doesn't even blog. His email was mentioned on John Lott's blog and one this blog, that's it that I can find.

One way or another, Thompson is interested enough in the right to arms to pick up on postings to scholarly email lists on the subject, or else hangs around pro-gun blogs. This is just incredible.

Anybody have a mailing address for him? I want to send him a copy of my Second Amendment documentary.

The liberal blogs show how afraid they are of Fred Thompson and they should be. Very afraid.
There is going to be a new sheriff in town and his name is FRED DALTON THOMPSON. Mark it down.

You could try his NRO email address:

fthompson@aei.org

Don't know whether it would work, but that's the only one I can find.

"Why does Fred Thompson scare the
Democrats (I could have linked to just
about any MSM article about him here)
and why does a dog lick it's balls?"

Same reason, "Because he can..."

more on Fred! at www.fredthompsonnews.com

Also, read my article on how Mr. Thompson will
become the next US President. And, there is an adress that you can write to Mr. Thompson.

This is awesome, but he still isnt running yet. Or is he "running," but just not announced it yet?

I thought he was pretty solid compared to the usual RINOs before, but now he practically has a halo. To top it off, he is charismatic and popular from TV. And politically experienced from being a senator.

Ron Paul > Fred Thompson

Not only your DVD, you should send him a couple of dollars as well, sir.

Run Fred Run! I don't have anywhere to send my campaign contribution check (arh...).

I support everything that Ron Paul is doing, but he is a brand of Libertarian/Republican that won't carry even a plurality vote. I'd be more than happy if more congressmen where like him, but I also think he lacks the charisma and leadership skills necessary to keep the attack dogs off.

Bush can be a painful leader to watch, even when I agree with him, I think Ron Paul would be very similar.

Out here in Kalifornia, the Republican committee wouldn't support Tom McLintock, preferring that RINO SchwartzenKennedy. If everyone voted for the right candidate they know in their heart of hearts is the right man for the job, Conservatism succeeds everywhere its been applied. The lefties always run right and govern left. I would be very happy with either President Fred Thompson or President Ron Paul.

Gotta love Fred.

Thompson doesn't get my vote just because he's taken a pro 2nd-Amendment stance. His association with the AEI is a red warning flag.

Ask who a politician sleeps with, and you know what diseases he has.

The fiscal and monetary policy of the Federal Government is impoverishing the nation and making the USA hated across the world. The economic benefit to average americans of a vast military empire is dubious at best.

The moral basis of our actions overseas is also highly questionable. Thompson's alignment with the AEI is proof that he will keep the US military in the Middle East for the duration of his presidency.

If you have any residual affection for the AEI, you should look into their policy manifesto. Read the machiavellian writings of Ledeen, Cheney, Krystol etc.

If you think a police state and global empire reflects conservative values, vote Fred Thompson. If you value your freedom and your dollar, vote Ron Paul.

Gun owners of America certainly don't see it that way. Fred Thompson voted 32 times on gun issues....only 20 times did he vote pro gun. Ron Paul is the ONLY uncompromising pro gun canidate running. Much better choices out there...who don't want to grant illegals in this country! Oh ya...do a google search on Ol Fred and see what he says about amensty to illegals in HIS own words! No thanks.

I've been a NRA certified LEO firearms instructor and I personally went through the legislation that GOA provides on their "voting record".
I knew they were being misleading on almost all of it so I contacted Craig Fields who is the author of that list.

Now, I didn't even fully explain what issues I had before Craig told me he was voting for Fred so, I didn't see the point in chasing that dog from that point.

You guys probably already have this information by now but, just in case you don't;

Fredipedia.US is a single page list of many links all about Fred;
http://fredipedia-us.blogspot.com/2007/12/last-weeks-fred-intel.html

Official website;
http://www.fred08.com

Someone point young James up there over to Fred's website and see the White Papers area. You'll see the strongest position on illegal immigration anywhere. Fred's also got seven detailed positions and plans in that same area...This guy just plane "gets-it".

Any questions gents, just email me. Thanks.
