Boston police run amok again

Posted by David Hardy · 1 March 2007 11:41 AM

The Department of Homeland Stupidity has the story. Hearing a report of a suspicious object, they called in the SWAT team and blew it up. Only to find out it was a traffic counter placed by the transportation department.

Hmmm...The ones I've seen look like a yellow or grey suitcase, usually chained to a lightpole or signpost, with a rubber hose tacked across to road to sense passing tires...gotta admit, it would be a workable "hide in plain sight" bomb type.

Anything COULD be a Bomb....but why wasn't the Department of Public Works called first?

I didn't see the whole Aquateen Bomb Scare to be that much of an overreation, as the devices were crudely made, un-branded, and were not lit up durring the day.

But this? Why didn't anybody relize it was from the Public Works Department, and get a confirmation on Counter locations?

Not cops are blowing up strange cars in Bean Town because they MIGHT hold a suicide bomber

Yes, anything could be a bomb, but this time they can't get all snuffy and blame it on the Public Works Department.

These instances are the result of our political culture here in the Bay State. Initiative is discouraged... it's better raise the alarm and let the 'higher-ups' make the decisions.
