Presidential candidates' ratings

Posted by David Hardy · 23 January 2007 04:39 PM

Over at the Volokh Conspiracy, Dave Kopel rates the candidates on Second Amendment issues.

Of possible GOP frontrunners, Gilmore draws nearly perfect. Of possible Demo frontrunners, none get near. Gov. Richardson of NM does get a high ranking, altho his chances for Demo nomination don't seem high (if only because the press has decided this is a Hilary vs. Obama race).

I for one, speaking as an uncompromising 2A supporter, stuck for the time being in Ma., and a fairly liberal socially, moderate fiscally, conservative environmentalist independent/libertarian/agnostic/engineer/husband/father/school committee member, am throwing my entire lot in with Bill Richardson and I will promote his candidacy as far and as widely as I possibly can. He's experienced, accomplished, smart, energetic, insightful, balanced, moderate, pragmatic, knows how to live and enjoy life and has no skeletons in his closet that I know of. He really seems to give a damn about so many things and he really seems to get "IT". Of the whole lot of those that have declared their candidacy, he appears to be the only one who isn't fairly extreme, one way or another, and I believe that he will appeal to the broadest swath of the American electorate if given half a chance. He's very electable and I'm sure that he will serve our country very well as he has done in the past. All I ask is that we give him a fair chance to plead his case.

I find it amazing that people ignore constitutional rights to meet their own
agenda. In this country we have the right to bear arms not just to protect ourselves from chiminals, but also from those who would try to defeat our constituional form of government, wether from within or from exterior facits. This is not now nor should the United States ever become a police state. There has been a terrible trend in this country to ignore peoples privacy, and personal rights for 'the good of all'. For the agenda of whom? I am a law abiding citizen. I served in the Unites States Marine Corps and swore to defend this country from enemies foreign or domestic.
