Brady chapter head: too many gun shows

Posted by David Hardy · 15 January 2007 09:23 AM

From a letter to the editor:

" am concerned about the alarming number of gun shows scheduled for Solano County in 2007.
I'm sure we are all aware of the rising level of senseless gun violence in America. I understand that many citizens feel the need to own guns for protection. However, scheduling gun shows for March, June, September, October and November is a bit excessive. ....I have recently become involved with the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence by starting a chapter in West Contra Costa County. I believe there should be a Solano County chapter."

Someone swallowed the "gun show loophole" propaganda hook, line, and sinker...

"senseless gun violence"? Is there "sensible" gun violence? And just what exactly is "gun violence"? I have been asking that question for a while now. Why do we never hear of "knife violence" or "baseball bat violence" or even "car violence"? Yet people certainly have used knives, baseball bats and even cars as deadly weapons. If someone bashes another person to death with a rock, is that "rock violence"?

"I'm sure we are all aware of the rising level of senseless gun violence in America. I understand that many citizens feel the need to own guns for protection."

Gun violence has actually declined over the last 10 years. A more correct opening sentence would be: "I'm sure we are all aware of the DECLINING level of gun violence in America AS MORE AMERICANS HAVE ARMED THEMSELVES AGAINST CRIME. I understand that many citizens feel the need to own guns for protection."

I leave it to the original author to follow the correct logic...

What, there are only 5 gun shows in Solano County this year? That's a shame. Where do we get behind the people who promote them so that they can get a few more dates going?

Hey, dude, who died and made you Czar of Gun Shows? It's none of your frelling business how many gun shows is enough and how many are too many. The marketplace should decide...wherever and whenever there is a public wanting to attend (whether to look or to buy or just to chat)and they are willing to buy tickets,...and wherever and whenever there are vendors willing to lug their gear in and put it on the tables on the chance of earning a lawful living, there should be gun shows. Fricking arrogant "I know how many gun shows there ought to be" liberal!

Oh...and how many car shows do you think there ought to be? Cars kill people too, ya know.

One, we Americans have a right to free association. It's no one's business to say we have too many Rotary conventions, Shriners' conventions, trade shows OR gun shows. Two, we are capitalists - and unashamedly so. You want to put gun shows out of business? Convince people not to go. What a maroon.
