Sniper on the loose

Posted by David Hardy · 22 March 2006 01:55 PM

Sniper on the loose in Pittsburg. Except that it turns out he was on a rooftop shooting pigeons with a BB gun.

Comments

Sometimes I sense dissapointment in cases like this where someone is doing something those in power disapprove of, but they can't find anything to charge the person with.

Shooting at pigeons with a BB gun and frightening the townspeople. Tsk tsk... surely no jail yet built is strong enough to house miscreants like this.

"Officers from several departments responded, including Pittsburgh police, state police, Port Authority police and the Allegheny County Sheriff's Department."

Where was the Office of Homeland Security? Once again the Bush administration is behind the curve and allowed our national security to be threatened by this event.

As a native of the steel city, I'd like to point out that it is spelled with an 'h' on the end.

The stories from my father and uncles about their boyhood in Pittsburgh during the depression bring more awe to me every year as I witness more and more how our country and culture have fallen from that time. As young teenagers, they could board a city bus carrying a loaded .22 rifle in hand and ride down to the Pittsburgh city dump to shoot rats all day. All of this without causing a widespread panic or bringing PETA down on their asses.

Now a report of a man with a BB gun shuts down the business district. I've alwyas felt I was born in the wrong era. Rather than grow more comfortable with 'when' I am, I am afraid the feeling grows stronger with every passing year. All I can say is we have demographics on our side. Maybe my children will know a carefree world where boys can be boys without worrying about becoming felons over some regulatory nonsense or victimless shenanigans.

I'm not clear if Rudy's comment is sarcasm or not. The answer is: "It's not the Fed's problem." Sounded like too many agencies to me, rather than needing more involved. Why exactly are there "Port Authority" police anyway? What function do they serve that a city, county, or state cop couldn't in the normal course of their duties?

Yes, My Comments were sarcastic. How many departments does it take to stop a "gunman" with a pellet gun? "A serious misallocation of resources."

Rojj, sorry for my lack of clarity. I read so many troll posts elsewhere that could have been worded nearly the same as yours.

Problem with online comments, no one can hear vocal inflection.
