FLA bill on firearms in cars

Posted by David Hardy · 20 March 2006 10:13 AM

The Brady Campaign is celebrating the tabling of a Florida bill that would allow firearms in locked cars on private property, but United Sportsmen of Florida is renewing its push (see extended remarks).

SUBJECT: HB-129 Protect Possession of Firearms in Vehicles in Parking Lots

The Florida House Judiciary Committee will hold another hearing on HB-129 by Rep. Dennis Baxley on Wednesday, March 22, 2006.

House Bill 129, the “firearms in parking lot bill” was again temporarily postponed last week in the Judiciary Committee. This was a disappointment as we were hoping to get it passed through and on to the next committee.

It is very important that we pass this bill to defend the Constitutional right of Floridians to carry firearms in their vehicles for self-protection.

This legislation has caused emotional and heated reactions on both sides of the issue. However, when we step back from the emotional debate, we must acknowledge that companies cannot establish policies that completely ignore the basic Constitutional rights of their customers and employees.

Individuals have the constitutional and legal right to keep and bear arms and to carry them in their vehicles for lawful purposes. Businesses have no right or authority to deny those rights.

Keep emailing members of the House Judiciary Committee and URGE THEM TO SUPPORT HB-129 by Rep. Baxley

(Below is a list of the email addresses of those you need to contact)

IN THE SUBJECT LINE OF YOUR EMAIL PUT:

SUPPORT HB-129 - Protect Possession of Firearms in Vehicles/Parking Lots

(To send one email to all committee members at the same time, block or highlight the entire list and then copy and paste the block into the address section of the email.)
