Canadian handgun ban proposed
David Kopel, over at Volokh Conspiracy, notes that Canada's possibly outgoing (and thoroughly corrupt) Liberal government is proposing a handgun ban. He also notes that members of Parliament had previously been saying that registration wouldn't lead to confiscation, and even that registration might improve the value of private firearms.
I wonder if this will instead boost many more conservative voters in Ontario to show up at the polls. I know the prairie provinces now have a reason to go out in the cold on 23 Jan 06.
Our gun voters in the US are always much more motivated to show up that the opposition. This may backfire spectacularly on the Liberals, just like it did on the Democrats in 1994.
(Snicker. Couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch of crooks...)

I heard some rumors that the ban will include 'military style' longarms as well as handguns. I hope these crooks get run out, but I wouldnt bet on it, judging by what I have heard about the history of gun control in Canada. I really hope that the ban doesnt make it, because if it does then the commies down here will only be encouraged to redouble their efforts to ban any and every type of gun here in the US.

I am a Canadian gun owner (handgun). This is just another ridiculous attempt for our corrupt, liberal government to win votes for the looming election. They think that banning handguns from law-abiding voters is a good idea. They think this will stop criminals from obtaining guns and shooting eachother. It is already nearly illegal to own a handgun here. I am a recreational target shooter. The restrictions here are severe. There has been an escalation in gun violence in certain parts of Toronto. This should be combated by increased police and community funding (where it is needed the most). The easy solution for this government is to punish me because some jerk obtains an illegal (unregistered) firearm and shoots somebody.

Has anyone besides me ever thought about a few things: Why do they want to take our weapons away so bad? It will never do any thing except waste more money and resources eg. criminals don't register their weapons. What will be the aftermath once all the criminals finally figure out that no one but the police and military have the weapons, since they don't show up until after the crimes are committed in the first place..... the failed gun control act that has wasted dump truck loads of cash has proved to everyone that government intelligence are 2 words that should never be in the same sentence ever again!!!!!
